WE DID IT!!!
Congratulations fellow alumni. We have reached and even exceeded the goal for our Help Hear Our Bells Again contribution campaign. As of 09/03/2010 we had a total of 43 contributions for a total of $5,140.00.
President Charlie Barr ’62 has contacted the company who will be installing the new programmable controller and they are working up a schedule now. When the contractor inspected the bells originally they were able to get the bells to work again, knowing that it was only a temporary patch. Therefore we are sure that anyone returning to campus this fall will hear the bells, even before the final replacement is made.
Once we have paid for the upgrade to the bells we will take any funds left over, including any we may receive after today, and look at other infrastructure items we might be able to direct the funds toward.
We what to thank the following contributors. Without your help we would not have been able to make this happen.

Letter below was our call for support.
Fellow Alumnus,
As most of you know the bells in the library tower have not worked for some time.
I have recently met on campus with the makers of the bells and its' operating system. Sadly there is no easy fix. The operating system dates from the 1930's when the tower was erected and the bells installed. This system is not now repairable. Parts are no longer made. What is available is a modern programmable controller. The cost of this new controller including the installation will be a few dollars south of $5,000.00.
All of us remember the sound of these bells. They were part of the Carson Long experience. The class of 2010 graduated without the sound of the bells on their graduation day. I would like them to be the last class to miss those sounds.
With these thoughts in mind, I am calling for help from our Alumni by asking for donations to fund this project.
You may send your contribution by mail or, if you prefer using a credit card, submit it on line.
Please send your contribution to:
Steve Collins '66, Treasurer
P.O.Box 650
Northville, NY 12134-0650
Please make checks payable to Carson Long Alumni Association and remember to put the word "BELLS" in the memo block on your check.
If we receive more than the amount required to replace the controller we plan to look at other infrastructure items that the money could provide assistance with.
Gentlemen, I know that we can do this. The sooner we can raise the funds, the sooner the bells will once again be heard by all. Wouldn't it be great to hear them, once again, at homecoming and during the reading of the Gold Star Platoon names.
Sincerely,
Charlie Barr '62, President
Carson Long Alumni Association
